Frequently Asked Questions

When are classes held?

Regular programming, consisting of our 8-week instructional course, is held in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.  Also, the summer session conducts 2-week camps for all levels. We also conduct programming in the winter months by going into schools in the Tulsa and surrounding areas.

Who is eligible to participate?

All young people ages 7-18
All students begin in the Sorenstam class.

Is First Tee just for beginners?

First Tee — Tulsa, due to its varying levels within its program, is able to teach every skill level from the beginner to the advanced.

How many levels are there?

There are 8 distinct levels of programming: Sorenstam, Jones, Hogan, Whitworth, Palmer, Birdie, Eagle, and Ace.

How does my child move up?

During each 8-week session, we evaluate students through written exams that cover knowledge of life skills, our Nine Core Values, golf rules, and etiquette.  Upon passing the requirements for each level, and being the appropriate age, the student progresses to the next level.

What is the cost?

Thanks to the Southern Hills Country Club Charitable Foundation and support from our valuable partners, First Tee — Tulsa offers all of its programming at NO COST to all participants.

What if there is bad weather or my child cannot attend do I need to call?

If there is bad weather such as lightning, First Tee — Tulsa Learning Center is able to conduct classes indoors. If there is dangerous weather present, we encourage every parent and student to stay off of the roads, be safe, and we will see you the following week. We will post on our Facebook page if class is canceled. If your child is sick or cannot attend class on a weekend, you can send us a message through Facebook.

*Due to Covid-19, we are unable to conduct classes indoors. Therefore, if there is inclement weather we will cancel class.

Should I bring my child if he/she is sick?

No, if a child does not feel well or is running a fever, please keep them home so as to not make any other students or staff ill.

What can I do as a parent to help my child progress?

The easiest way to make progress in golf skills is to practice. We encourage parents to take the students to a golf course and practice hitting, putting and chipping.

When are the classes held?

Weekdays and Saturdays. If your child enrolls in a certain class, that class will be held once a week for eight weeks in a row at that same time and day. Also, in the summer, we conduct camps at which we will teach a class four days a week for two weeks.

Can a child substitute classes during a week?

No, our classes are full; our commitment to safety means keeping our student-to-instructor ratio low.

What are some of the opportunities for a student who is a member?

Scholarship opportunities, ACT Test Prep, special STEM programming, tournament experience, volunteer opportunities, community service, and golf instruction. Other perks include free equipment during class, including range balls, $2.00 green fees on Pecan Valley front 9 (after 2:00pm on weeken0ds, depending on course availability), and lots of fun!

Are there scholarship opportunities?
