2020 News & Updates

Happy Holidays!

We would like to wish everyone a safe and joyous holiday season.  As 2020 nears an end, we are grateful to have the opportunity to continue to positively impact the lives of youth in Tulsa and its surrounding communities.  We had the honor of serving over 17,000 students during this tumultuous year.  We would like to thank all of our students and families for their positive outlook, and working with First Tee — Tulsa staff so we could deliver fun, safe, and educational programming throughout the year.  We also want to thank our terrific donors for their valued support.  Due to your support, we are able to provide quality instruction at NO COST to all participants.  Your support really captures the Tulsa spirit, and we thank you. Red Bud Cup

Team Southern Hills captured the annual Red Bud Cup at the Golf Club of Oklahoma, defeating other teams from golf courses around the Tulsa area. The Red Bud Cup is a Ryder-Cup style match with 12 players on each team. The one-day event’s mission is to help raise money for First Tee — Tulsa. <<Read more here>>  

Students, Including Aspiring Engineer, Learn STEM Through Golf At First Tee — Tulsa

First Tee — Tulsa students learned how having an understanding of environmental science, energy transfer, aerodynamics, measurement and computation, and more can help them be better golfers and students. It can even help them plan for future careers. <<Read more here>>

First Tee — Tulsa Student Gets First Hole-In-One

The odds of an average golfer getting a hole-in-one are about 12,000 to 1, according to the National Hole-In-One Registry. But that didn't stop one First Tee — Tulsa, who will have a lasting memory of hole number 6 Mohawk Park Golf Course. <<Read more here>>

First Tee — Tulsa Students Play In Inaugural Oklahoma Junior Masters At Southern Hills

Two First Tee — Tulsa students recently had the opportunity to play one of the most recognizable courses in the state – teeing off from the same tee as Tiger Woods, Retief Goosen, Nick Price, and so many other legends. <<Read more here>> Soulai Vang (left) and Emily Vang (right) play at Southern Hills Country Club.

First Tee — Tulsa Students Volunteer At Iron Gate

In January of 2020, First Tee — Tulsa students volunteered their time to give back to their community and help at Iron Gate. Overall, First Tee — Tulsa students helped provide 342 bags of groceries for 76 households.<<Read more here>>

The 9th annual Red Bud Cup

We recently had an amazing group of people host a fundraiser benefiting First Tee — Tulsa. The Red Bud Cup is an interclub golf event that featured some of the best players from Cedar Ridge Country Club, Oaks Country Club, Patriot Golf Club, Southern Hills Country Club, and Tulsa Country Club. The Captains from the five teams selected the First Tee Tulsa as the beneficiary for this year, and future years as well! On behalf of all First Tee participants, parents, grandparents, and staff, we would like to thank all of the Red Bud participants and captains for their tremendous support! We greatly appreciate it!

Reading and Math Clinic

First Tee — Tulsa offered a FREE Reading and Math clinic held at the First Tee — Tulsa Learning Center in August for all students 10 years old and younger. We hired professional educators to come in and teach classes preparing our PLAYers to go back to school. The teachers used a variety of indoor activities and golf games to stimulate lots of learning. Our gratitude goes out to Mrs. Blackburn and Mrs. Davis for all their efforts to make this a fun experience for our students. Their passion for teaching and educating children were evident in the excitement our students displayed while learning.  

First Tee — Tulsa's 2018 college graduates

Austin Crandall-Graduated from Sperry High School in 2011, graduated this spring from Pharmaceutical School at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in the spring of 2018. Selected by the First Tee — Tulsa scholarship committee as the 2011 recipient of the Jo Bob Hille Scholarship for higher education. Loved giving back serving as a mentor coach during First Tee classes and carried it forward while attending college helped organize a golf tournament benefiting St. Jude’s.    

    Jon Paul Ray- Long-term First Tee — Tulsa student, graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 2015 , represented First Tee — Tulsa playing in First Tee Nature’s Valley at Pebble Beach partnering with PGA golf professional Bob Tway. Played collegiate golf at Central Christian College in Kansas and graduated in 3 years with a 3.75 GPA with a Business Management major! Seeking to go to law school has worked in the golf industry for the past 5 years during the summer time. Great memories about Jon Paul, he was always eager to give back to the community attending First Tee community service outings, is a hard worker and a natural leader.        

First Tee — Tulsa's 2018 high school graduates

Alesia Gonzales graduated from Booker T. Washington with high honors in the spring of 2018. She played the number one spot on the BTW girls golf team for 4 years, played her junior year with much success shooting a 69 during an Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour tournament. She has worked hard to become a student/athlete signing to play for Missouri University at St. Louis starting next fall.    

First Tee Day

First Tee — Tulsa is very grateful to Southern Hills Country Club, Cedar Ridge Country Club, Tulsa Country Club and Indian Springs Country Club for hosting a First Tee Day during the Memorial Day weekend. A big THANK YOU goes to the members who donated making this fantastic event a great success.           (Alums and The First Tee students greeting members on the first tee box of their respective clubs and wishing them a great day!)  

Good News Summit

First Tee — Tulsa will be present at the good news summit on February 1st.

ACT Test prep

For all of our college-bound students, we will be having an ACT Test Prep Course on January 20th and 27th at the First Tee — Tulsa Learning Center. It is FREE. To sign up for this tremendous opportunity, please contact Coach Austin at [email protected]. It was really fun to watch our students prepare for the big test. Hopefully with the help of the professional educators we brought in, our students scores will soar!

Community Service Event: Iron Gate

On Tuesday, July 25th, 2017, First Tee — Tulsa is volunteering to serve at Iron Gate in downtown Tulsa. This is a great way for us to “Give Back” to our community. Any member of First Tee — Tulsa 13 years and older are eligible to join us. We will meet at Mohawk Park Golf Course at 7:15 a.m. and return approximately at 11:45 a.m. Please, email [email protected] to sign up. It is always heartening to see our participants give back to the community. We all walked away with a new perspective. Keep a look-out for our next community service opportunity.

Nadia Majidi

We would like to congratulate First Tee — Tulsa alumnus, Nadia Majidi on her terrific golf career at Tulsa University.

Baylee Price

Congratulations to First Tee — Tulsa alumnus, Baylee Price, on being named WGCA All-Region and WGCA All-American Scholar this year while playing for Northeastern State University.
