Math and Leadership
We have developed and implemented a Math and Leadership class at three different schools in 2020 (Marshall, Liberty, and Limestone). The class gives students the opportunity to learn valuable leadership and math skills through the game of golf. This is an after-school program either on school premises or at a nearby park. If you would like to get your school involved, please contact Coach Austin.
Our free STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) classes are focused on our students ages 12 and up. We offer STEM 1 and STEM 2 during the course of the year. Both classes attempt a deeper understanding of the STEM behind the game of golf. We dive into numerous topics: why there are grooves on a club, what do dimples on a golf ball do, how does rolling resistance affect a putt, etc. These classes look at the physics behind the game, and the students get to see a whole different side of golf. We measure club head speed, ball speed, launch angle, and spin rate to determine distance and carry. This fun class is open to current First Tee — Tulsa students. To sign up for the next session, email Coach Austin at email@example.com.

First Tee — Tulsa offers a free Reading, Writing, and Math clinic to current First Tee — Tulsa students. Held at the First Tee — Tulsa Learning Center, professional educators teach these classes preparing our players to go back to school. Classes are geared for 2nd-4th-grade levels. Previous Success Story: JaDa, one of our students, was informed she would be staying in 3rd grade for a second year due to her reading skills. After completing our Reading and Math class, she was informed that she was moving into the 4th grade as scheduled and she is now succeeding!
This class is usually offered once a year for our students interested in playing golf at the university level. It covers a wide range of topics including recruiting, work-out routines, academic responsibility, and the overall life of a student-athlete. It is taught by three coaches, all of whom played at the university level: Janice Gibson (Executive Director/LPGA/PGA Professional), Austin Quinten (Program Director), and Julia Dierker (Assistant Director).
